Old and Scared written 11 years ago

Skull and Crossbones

Now I’m back at home, I’ve been keeping myself entertained on my bike, riding up the old trails as I used to do as a young whipper-snapper. The one thing I’ve noticed though is that I’m actually scared to do a lot of the things I would have done without a second look.

The ropeswings and other related death-fun-toys that were built and abused for many an hour, now scare the living bjesus out of me. I think you’d also be hard pressed to find any 21 year old that’d be happy being swung about on a loop of rope between two trees, but 14 year old Rob loved it.

Steep? Some of the slopes and drops that were just part of a normal bike ride, now make me think of broken bones and lost wages. Took me three goes to coax myself down a steepish drop the other day. It did feel good to have all my teeth intact once I’d reached the bottom though.

Growing older just plain sucks. Must do more (silly | stupid) things.

Rope swings are nasty, give rope burn, pull muscles and such. Ur not old, u just been away from these white-knuckle thingies for a while, I am sure you’ll take a deep breath and go for it, are you talking about that dodgy incredibly-downward pathway near that church near ur house? Coz that looks dodgy xxxxxxx

Naw, it’s the drop (that doesn’t really look like a drop) in the picture above. I took a picture incase I broke all my bones in riding down it… Then I’d have something to point to and say “look. This is what did it!”
